According to experts, Oracle Park is one of the friendliest parks for a pitcher. The park sits adjacent to the San Francisco Bay, giving fans the view of the water from their seats. Formerly known as AT&T Park, the Giants have played all their home games here since the 2000 season opener. Their original venue the Polo Grounds in New York City, then Seals Stadium in San Francisco, and finally now Oracle Park. Throughout franchise history, the Giants have called many venues their home. With their last big win in 2014, the Giants are hungry to add another World Series title to their collection. More recently, the Giants have been in a bit of a rut. They ended up facing off with the other Wild Card contender the Kansas City Royals and nearly defeating them in game seven. The title in 2014 came as a surprise to many as the Giants were entered as the Wild Card for the National League and were not expected to make it far. Once they were able to get in a groove, the Giants won three World Series titles in four seasons in 2010, 2012, and 2014. While it only took them four years to gain another National League pennant, it took them nearly sixty years before they earned another World Series title. Their first appearance came in 1905, where they won the series in four games against the Philadelphia Athletics. While in New York the Giants won seventeen National League Pennants and five World Series titles. Also, early on in their history they changed their name from the Gothams to the Giants, after their manager exclaimed “My big fellows! My giants!” after a very satisfactory win against the Philadelphia Phillies. In 1888 they won their first National League Pennant and went on to win the championship game, not considered as a World Series victory as this was pre-modern-era World Series.
